In the wholesale market, lemon prices have escalated to Rs 150 per kg, with retail prices ranging between Rs 170-180 per kg due to high demand and limited supply. Previously, lemons were priced at approximately Rs 30-40 per kg.
This significant price increase is attributed to the current extreme hot season, with expectations that prices will remain elevated for the next month. In contrast, prices for other vegetables such as onions, potatoes, tomatoes, capsicums, cauliflowers, carrots, radishes, and ladyfingers are more stable in the wholesale market, with prices for these items listed at Rs 22, Rs 22, Rs 30, Rs 20, Rs 35, Rs 15, Rs 30, and Rs 50 per kg respectively.
However, retail prices for these vegetables are generally higher by Rs 20-30 per kg. The disparity between wholesale and retail prices has been noted by consumers, highlighting a significant price difference that impacts affordability.
