Banana price surge in Algeria addressed by Trade Minister Zitouni

During a recent inspection in Algiers, Trade Minister Tayeb Zitouni commented on the national market's banana price surge, deeming it unjustified against global market values. Zitouni noted, "We have calculated the cost price of this product plus the margins, and it should not exceed 200 Algerian Dinars." He assured the enforcement of anti-speculation laws, stating, "We will take action and enforce the law to hold those responsible for this increase accountable."

The minister also observed that the focus on other products had led to opportunistic price increases, with bananas now reaching 470 Algerian Dinars per kilogram in the wholesale market. Zitouni has directed his department to seize goods priced unjustly and ensure product traceability, emphasizing the government's commitment to fair pricing and consumer protection against market exploitation.
