Montague announces the return of the yello apple

Montague announces the return of the yello apple, exclusive to the company, with an expected harvest of around two million apples this season.

Originating from Japan's Nagano Research Centre in 1983, yello is a cross between Golden Delicious and Senshu apples, bearing similarities to the Shinano Gold variety. This yellow-hued apple is exclusively cultivated by Montague and its Victorian partners in select regions including Pakenham, West Gippsland, Drouin, Yarra Valley, and the Mornington Peninsula.

The cultivation of yello is challenging, with a limited annual yield. Currently, over 36,500 trees are dedicated to this variety, with each tree anticipated to produce about 100 apples. Yello is noted for its unique flavor profile, combining sweetness with tropical undertones. Montague reports strong customer approval for yello, emphasizing its compatibility with exotic spices and various dishes. Available at selected greengrocers and Costco, yello apples will be on sale for a limited period until early September or while supplies last.
