The first technology park specialized in irrigation, promoted by Caudal and located in the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, in the Spanish Region of Murcia, is now a reality. The first of the four phases of the project has been completed and is running at full capacity. In this initial part of the project, the focus has been on constructing the photovoltaic solar plant, putting the first of the warehouses into operation, expanding the storage capacity, and conditioning the entire environment.
Pedro González, CEO of Caudal, says that "one of its major innovations is the integration of all the activities transversally involved in the production of irrigation systems: energy, raw materials, industrial processes, market adaptation... This way of working, coordinated and in a single place, is something unique in the world."
One of the major completed milestones is the construction of the photovoltaic solar plant that will allow it to be self-sufficient. For now, more than 3,000 modules have been installed that will generate 1.7 MWh of green energy. This capacity will grow alongside the park to meet its needs. Its implementation entails the creation of the first renewable energy community in the Region of Murcia, which the company will manage.
They have also completed the construction of a new industrial warehouse, which is equipped with the latest technology and adapted to meet every need of the irrigation sector. This warehouse is increasing Caudal's capacity to customize its range with new products that are also aimed at individuals.
"This initiative will allow us to move on from the classic industrial model that only takes products, prices, and services into account to a broader one, aligned with the current sensibilities of more committed and, therefore, more demanding consumers," says Pedro González.
Conditioning of the environment
In this first phase, the storage yard for finished products has also been expanded, now covering 70,000 m², which will allow for faster management of the available stock. Work has also begun on an experimental 18,000 m² station, designed to test new developments under real conditions before their market launch.
Along with the work done indoors, Caudal has also undertaken works on public land in the surrounding area, namely to improve the access roads.
More than 400,000 m² dedicated to water
The technology park is expected to be completed by 2030. In total, it will cover 400,000 m², will be backed by an investment of 30 million euros, and will generate around 500 jobs.
All the firms of the Caudal Group, dedicated to researching and producing sustainable irrigation systems, will be based within it, operating in an environment that will facilitate the development of shared projects where the circular economy will be the axis of any initiative.
Moreover, 25% of the space will be available for companies and startups devoted to any activity in the irrigation chain, from the supply of raw materials, services, or specialized logistics to innovation.
