In Ireland, stocks continue to tighten significantly as merchants seek out remaining packing quality material, prices are reflected accordingly. Good planting progress was made in the northeast of the country last week, however, the southeast remained very wet, and many are only getting going this week. Stocks will run very tight before any new season crops come onto the market.
Across Europe, soil conditions are improving, although planting progress is delayed by heavy showers and some areas are still only beginning to plant. Progress is most advanced in Germany and France where 25% of the processing crop is in the ground, but planting has only just begun in Holland and Belgium. In the U.K., planting progress has also been significantly delayed, and growth rates have been very slow.
