With the commissioning of the fourth production hall for the manufacturing of wood-based net packaging at the Austrian plant in Neudau, Packnatur® continues to expand its international quality and market leadership. Packnatur cellulose netting is a compostable alternative to plastic that can be used directly on existing packaging machines. The idea originated from the company's founder, Helmut Meininger, who has dedicated more than 30 years to the development of biogenic packaging alternatives and was honored with the WorldStar Packaging Award for his lifetime achievement in Australia in 2018. In just a few years, this packaging innovation has become the "State of the Art" in the international packaging industry.
Manfred Kern, Managing Director of Packnatur Neudau, is responsible for establishing the industrial production. State-of-the-art machinery, expanded by prototype machines for new developments, produce around 20 million packaging units per month, especially for the packaging of fresh fruits and vegetables such as potatoes or citrus fruits. Kern: "After the biodegradable net was successfully introduced to the market, the production capacity for the production of the netting was very limited. Therefore, the decision was made to establish our own production here in Neudau. In the meantime, the fourth expansion stage has already been completed, enabling us to meet the volume requirements of large retail chains. Controlled highest quality, combined with optimal delivery service, justify an Austrian production location. Here, a new symbiosis between two basic elements – food and textiles – is achieved."
Manfred Kern and Markus Kainer.
Markus Kainer, responsible for the international sales of Packnatur Cellulose Netting, agrees. "Today, we can proudly report that our innovation has been successful in the market and is the ecologically and economically sensible alternative to plastic net packaging. Naturally, the success of our invention did not go unnoticed by competitors, and many, more or less established, plastic producers are also starting to produce cellulose nets. This is only natural and not surprising in a dynamic market environment."
