Peruvian ginger exports experienced a strong decrease in the first half of the campaign. According to data provided by Fresh Cargo Peru, between weeks 1 and 15, Peru exported 9,090 tons of the product for a FOB value of $20,017,128. This is 62% less than in the same period last year.
Analyzing the monthly data, in January 2024 the country exported 3,274 tons, i.e. 41% less than in January 2023. In February, 3,215 tons were exported, 51% less than in the same month of the previous year. The downward trend continued in March and April with falls of 79% and 76%, respectively, over the same months of the previous year.
The country has shipped 396 containers to date, 96% of which were exported by sea and 4% by air. 69% of ginger exports were sent to North America and generated revenues of $14,168,905. Europe followed with a 30% share and $5,711,631. Exports to Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia stood at around 0.3%, and $74,000, $38,246, $18,000, and $6,346, respectively.
It's worth noting that 84% of the ginger shipped corresponded to the organic category, while the remaining 16% was of the conventional product.
