Mt. Kenya farmers set macadamia price at Sh100 per kilo

In the Mt Kenya region, farmer community groups have taken steps to set the selling price of macadamia at Sh100 per kilo. This move comes in response to the Nut Traders Association of Kenya (Nutak) addressing the suspension of section 43 of the Crops Act 2013 by the Ministry of Agriculture, which permits the export of in-shell macadamia.

Nutak representatives have been active in Mathare ini village, Kigumo, educating farmers on the importance of harvesting mature nuts to prevent exploitation by middlemen. Esther Githambo, a macadamia farmer from the region, has expressed support for the price setting, recalling the financial losses she faced last year due to market collapse.
