Export volumes of Ukrainian walnuts stabilize

In 2023, Ukraine exported nearly 31,000 tons of walnuts, totalling over $77 million. While this marks a 21% increase in quantity compared to 2022, revenues dropped by 4%, according to the Ukrainian Association of Agrarian Export. Of the exported walnuts, 8,600 tons were in-shell and 22,000 tons were shelled. The European Union emerged as the primary market, accounting for over $45 million (58% of total revenue).

Non-European countries like Iraq, Turkey, and Azerbaijan were the top purchasers of in-shell walnuts, while Azerbaijan, Turkey, France, Romania, Greece, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina led purchases of shelled walnuts. The average export price for in-shell walnuts was $893 per ton, significantly lower than the price for shelled walnuts at $3,142 per ton.

The Ukrainian Association of Agrarian Export notes a general decline in the dynamics of sales on the international market of walnuts following the onset of full-scale war, which in 2023 was further complicated by the issue of declining export prices.

This underscores the importance of focusing on the export of high-quality walnuts cultivated by specialized enterprises.
