More than any other edition, Fruit Logistica 2024 surprised the Ser.mac team due to the number of professionals looking at new solutions for their businesses. Many were attracted by the brand new Ser.mac machines featuring AI for walnuts and dates.
Grader for walnuts
AI for walnuts and dates
The latest additions to Ser.mac's portfolio are the date and walnut machines, both featuring AI capable of identifying the defects of these two fruits, which are difficult to grade due to their organoleptic qualities.
For dates, Ser.mac has created Ghibli, a grader suitable for various types of product including the very delicate Medjool variety. This solution identifies weight, color, diameter and internal and external quality.

When it comes to walnuts, the grader goes beyond their irregular and sturdy shells thanks to roller cups that quantify their weight and diameter and a cart that fully rotates the fruit showing every tiny detail to the AI cameras.
These new technologies automatically discard the dates and walnuts that do not meet the values of interest, ensuring that only the products fully compliant with the market of reference go on sale.

Looking to the past to take large steps towards the future
Vilmer Guidazzi, general manager at Ser.mac, explains that "six years ago, the company paved the way for a new technology. Thanks to the collaboration with Cooperativa Agrintesa, AI immediately attracted the attention of the sector, leading to the swift international sale of many systems featuring HDiA for fruits such as peaches, nectarines, Saturn peaches, pears, apples, blueberries, cherries, kiwifruit and citrus fruit."
"We now supply entirely different hardware and software technologies, even better performing, that ensure an accurate analysis of internal and external quality even for products with a unique shape and texture such as walnuts and dates. Thanks to our graders, the processing of fruits and vegetables becomes faster and more efficient, increasing production at a reduced cost."
Google also rewarded Ser.mac for its constant drive towards innovation. "We have had the pleasure of being chosen by Google as a company that looks to the future. For the occasion, we attended an event in Rome where our CEO Stefano Crociani, together with a manager from Agrintesa, showed a video illustrating the strengthening of algorithms recently carried out to make the systems better performing thanks to user-friendly user systems featuring new interfaces."
"We would like to thank all clients that placed their trust in us and in our technologies - Agrintesa, Perugini, Ceradini, Zeus, Gobbi, Orogel, Zeoli and all the others all over the world. We would also like to thank our competitors, because we believe they always push us to improve ourselves."
