During a recent meeting in Namangan, the President of Uzbekistan highlighted that industrial and agricultural products are mainly exported from the region through Tashkent and Andijan, leading to increased prices.
In a bid to boost exports and cut logistics costs, the President instructed officials to launch a cargo terminal at the vacant space of Namangan International Airport and establish a logistics centre near the Kamchik Pass. Additionally, reopening the "Karvon" customs post and expediting the construction of one in "Uchkurgan" were also mandated.
Despite Namangan producing 1.5 million tons of fruits and vegetables, only 10 % is exported. The President emphasized that with proper organization, exports could increase three to five times. Plans include expanding export destinations to China, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Arab countries, with 54 thousand hectares of land to be mapped for agricultural chemistry, 18 thousand of which will be adapted to "GSP+" standards.
Despite specializing in horticulture, areas like Kasansay and Chartak lack processing facilities. Therefore, several processing projects will be initiated to address this deficiency.
