Maersk vessel targeted by a ballistic missile launched from Yemen

Houthi rebels executed subsequent assaults on container ships belonging to Maersk and MSC, following initial attacks two weeks prior. On 24 April, the US-flagged Maersk Yorktown, with a capacity of 2,500 TEU and operating between Oman and Djibouti, was targeted by an anti-ship ballistic missile launched from Houthi-controlled territories in Yemen. The US Central Command reported the interception of the missile over the Gulf of Aden at 11:51 a.m. Yemen time. The crew, consisting of 18 Americans and four Greeks, reported no injuries or damage. Concurrently, the US Navy neutralized four drones above Yemen.

Another incident on 25 April involved the Portugal (Madeira)-flagged MSC Darwin VI, a 6,078 TEU vessel engaged in MSC's Petra service, which was nearing Djibouti from Sri Lanka. A missile detonated close to the ship, 15 nautical miles southwest of Aden, without causing harm to the vessel or its crew. Both the Maersk Yorktown and MSC Darwin VI had previously evaded attacks on 9 April. The Houthi faction targeted MSC Darwin VI, labeling it an "Israeli" ship.
