Farmable, a provider of farm management software (FMS), has reached a milestone in collaboration with the central SIEX project led by the Spanish Agrarian Guarantee Fund (FEGA). Castilla y León, one of the pioneering communities in Spain, has successfully established a live API connection between Farmable and the government's documentation system for farming.
This achievement underscores the collaboration between the development teams in Castilla y León, the central SIEX project, and Farmable itself, marking a significant milestone in compliance with the new European Union (EU) agricultural regulations.
"It's a turning point in European farming that a federal system has prioritized interoperability with commercial tools for agriculture, ultimately giving the farmer the choice in how to manage their compliance obligations," explains Farmable CEO Lars Petter Blikom.
The EU has introduced stringent regulations necessitating precise documentation and reporting of agricultural practices by farmers across its 28 member countries. As one of Europe's largest food-producing nations, Spain has proactively developed digital solutions to support its farms in the new reporting requirements. This includes the implementation of the Cuaderno Digital de Explotación (CUE), a digital tool for tracking and reporting plant protection treatments, fertilization, and other essential information. To incentivize Spanish growers to use the CUE, farms who voluntarily report during the 2024 season can expect to be prioritized in their CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) application process and receive less scrutiny and/or lower penalties this season.
By forging a seamless API connection with the government reporting systems, Farmable has simplified the compliance process for farmers in Castilla y León, demonstrating the power of collaboration between regional and central development teams.
David Sanchez Lopez, Project Coordinator at SIEX, commended the collaborative effort, stating, "The successful implementation of the live API connection showcases the dedication of both the public and private sectors commitment to making regulatory compliance easier for farmers. This milestone reflects the industry's collective vision for a more efficient and technologically advanced agricultural sector."
Key highlights of Farmable's live connection to the government reporting system include automated data transfer, seamless integration, real-time updates, and enhanced efficiency. Farmable extends its appreciation to both the development teams in Castilla y León and the central SIEX project for their dedicated efforts in making this accomplishment possible. Farmers in Castilla y León are encouraged to take advantage of this live connection and explore how it can streamline their compliance with the Cuaderno Digital de Explotación and other regulatory requirements.
