In response to a significant decrease in apple harvest volumes for the 2023/24 season, Brazil escalated its apple imports despite the ongoing harvest season. This move aimed to satisfy the domestic demand, resulting in an uptick in the entry of foreign apples. Data from DataLiner illustrates the trajectory of Brazil's exports of apples, pears, and quinces from January 2021 to February 2024.
Comex Stat data indicates that in March, the import volume reached 7,000 tons, marking a 17% increase from February. This volume aligns closely with the import levels of the same month in the previous year, a trend attributed to harvest delays prompting an increased reliance on imported apples. During this period, Chile emerged as the leading supplier, accounting for 41% of the total import volume, followed by Argentina with 26%, and Italy with 25%.
