According to a report from bourgas.ru, cherry prices in Bulgaria have begun to decline, with a kilogram of the fruit now available for 16.4 euros.
The cherry harvesting has already begun in the Sliven region, with this year's crop maturing a full ten days earlier than usual, as stated by Kosta Petrov, the chairman of the "Bulgarian Peach" Association.
Cherry growers, particularly those cultivating the fruit in greenhouses, have begun to market their produce. Street sweet cherries are also expected to ripen earlier, with farmers anticipating a harvest around May 10-12.
Petrov attributed the accelerated ripening to a stretch of unusually high temperatures in early April, which lasted for 10–15 days.
Regarding the impact of the hailstorm on April 25, Petrov acknowledged limited damage in Sliven but highlighted more significant repercussions in other villages. Farmers in these areas are hopeful for compensation for their losses.
